Questions and answers

How do I invest in maritime assets in Dubai?

There are four practical routes: buy a vessel and place it with a licensed charter operator, buy a vessel for private use and accept the running cost, invest in a marine business such as a yard, management or brokerage company, or enter a vessel-specific contractual structure such as charter management or a rent-back agreement on a named hull. Each route requires a different level of involvement, and each requires the counterparty's licence, insurance and contract terms to be verified in writing before any money moves.

What is the minimum investment for a maritime asset in Dubai?

It depends on the asset. On the BoatFinder+ marketplace today, sale listings run from small craft up to vessels priced in the tens of millions of dirhams, and the investment-grade band above AED 1,000,000 is shown live on the maritime investment hub. Marine service businesses generally require working capital, premises and staffing rather than a single asset price. There is no fixed minimum ticket in the sector.

Is maritime investment in Dubai asset-backed?

Vessel ownership is asset-backed in the literal sense: you hold title to a registered, identifiable, insurable asset that can be surveyed and sold. That is not the same as capital protection. Vessels depreciate, incur berthing, crew, insurance and maintenance cost, and can take months to sell. Contractual rent-back or repurchase structures add counterparty risk on top, because their value depends on the other party performing.

Can a foreigner invest in maritime assets in the UAE?

Foreign nationals routinely own vessels and marine businesses in the UAE, subject to the registration and licensing framework of the emirate involved and, for companies, the relevant mainland or free-zone ownership rules. Requirements change, so confirm the current position with the relevant maritime authority and a licensed UAE adviser before committing.

Do I need a licence to charter my vessel for income in Dubai?

Yes. A vessel used for paid charter must hold commercial registration and be operated by, or under written agreement with, a licensed charter company. A privately registered vessel cannot legally be chartered for profit, and doing so is one of the most common causes of denied insurance claims.

What does it actually cost to run a yacht as an investment in Dubai?

The recurring cost stack is berthing, insurance, crew or skipper, routine servicing, antifouling and haul-out, fuel, and periodic refit work. Those costs are why gross charter revenue and net return look very different. BoatFinder+ lists published marine service and yard companies in Dubai so the maintenance side can be priced from real providers rather than assumed.

Does BoatFinder+ guarantee a return on maritime investment?

No. BoatFinder+ is a marketplace, not a financial adviser, fund manager or guarantor. No yield, buyback, occupancy or resale figure is published unless an authorised seller or operator has supplied and evidenced it for a specific vessel, and even then it is a contractual term, not a guaranteed outcome.

How do I exit a maritime investment in the UAE?

By selling the vessel or the business. Vessel sales in the UAE commonly take several months and depend on brand, condition, documentation, refit history and whether the listing hits the October to April season. Marine businesses usually need a trade buyer and take longer. Maritime allocations should not be relied on for short-term liquidity.

What due diligence should I complete before buying?

Commission an independent condition and machinery survey, verify the registration and ownership chain, obtain the service and refit history, confirm insurance is in place and appropriate to the intended use, have any management, charter or rent-back contract reviewed by UAE counsel, and model a downside case with weak utilisation and a major maintenance event.

Where can I see real maritime investment opportunities in Dubai?

Live sale listings above AED 1,000,000 are shown on the maritime investment Dubai hub with real asking prices, lengths, years and locations. Where a specific operator has supplied evidenced contractual terms for a named vessel, those terms appear on that vessel's own page. Nothing else is presented as an offer.
