Yacht anchors in Dubai cover plough, spade, scoop and fluke anchor types plus galvanised chain, swivels, snubbers and windlass spares. UAE anchorages are mostly sand with patches of weed and rock, which favours modern scoop-type anchors. Size the anchor to vessel weight and windage rather than length alone.
Most UAE anchorages are sand, sometimes with weed or rubble patches. Modern scoop-type anchors set quickly and hold well in sand, which is why they have largely replaced older plough designs on Dubai-based yachts.
Plan for a scope of at least four to five times the depth in settled conditions and more if it blows. For typical UAE anchorages many yachts carry 50–80 m of chain; deeper or more exposed anchorages need more.
Yes, always on chain rode. A nylon snubber absorbs shock, takes load off the windlass, and stops the chain snatching and grinding at the bow roller. It also makes the anchorage far quieter.
Galvanised is stronger for the money and can be re-galvanised when the coating wears. Stainless looks better and resists staining but costs considerably more and can suffer crevice corrosion. Most working setups in the UAE use galvanised.
Yes, hot-dip re-galvanising is available and typically costs far less than new chain. It is a common mid-life step once the original coating wears through, provided the links themselves are sound.
The gypsy must match both chain size and calibration standard. A mismatch causes chain to jump or jam under load. Give the supplier your windlass model and a measured sample of chain link length and diameter.
