Boat Building Across the Emirates
Fiberglass (GRP) is the dominant material for UAE leisure craft because it tolerates heat and salt well, is cheap to repair locally, and lets a yard reuse tooling across many hulls. That last point matters commercially: a fiberglass yacht manufacturer UAE-side can offer you a proven hull at a far lower price than a one-off build, then customise the deck, console, seating, tankage and engines.
Rigid inflatable builders in Abu Dhabi and Dubai supply leisure owners as well as patrol, rescue and dive operators, typically in aluminium or GRP with hypalon collars. Fishing-boat yards focus on deck space, live wells, rod storage and long-range tankage. Passenger and dive craft add stability, seating capacity and the survey requirements that come with carrying paying guests.
Traditional wooden construction has not disappeared. Yards in Ajman and Umm Al Quwain still build wooden hulls, including the dhows used by Dubai's floating restaurants and dinner-cruise operators. If you are commissioning a hospitality vessel, ask the yard about passenger capacity, galley provision and the survey route before design work starts.

Fiberglass construction is the mainstream method for UAE leisure craft, used by composite yards in Umm Al Quwain, Ajman, Dubai and Abu Dhabi for sport boats, fishing boats, flybridge yachts and passenger craft. Each profile in this directory lists the materials the yard works in.
Yes. Most yards accept custom orders. For smaller craft the practical route is customising an existing hull mould — deck layout, console, seating, tanks and engines — which avoids the cost of new tooling. For a wholly new hull, expect naval architecture and tooling costs on top of the build.
Yes. Wooden boat building continues in Ajman and Umm Al Quwain, including dhow hulls used by dinner-cruise and charter operators. Builders in this directory that work in wood are marked with the wooden material tag.
There is no single figure — cost depends on length, material, engines, systems and finish level, and yards quote per project. Submit one specification through the build-quote form and compare written quotes from several UAE yards on the same brief.
