A shipyard is defined by its lifting and docking capability, not its brand. Ask for the rated capacity of the travel lift or syncrolift, the length and draft the dry dock or slipway accepts, and whether steel and aluminium fabrication is done in-house or subcontracted. Yards that also build commercial craft — crew boats, workboats, patrol and passenger vessels — carry class-survey experience that a leisure-only builder usually does not.
Marine engineering covers propulsion alignment, gearbox and shaft work, piping, hydraulics, electrical distribution and control systems. Confirm which of those are performed by the yard's own engineers and which are handed to third parties, because that decides who is accountable for warranty and how long the vessel stays out of service.
Dubai Maritime City and Al Jadaf hold the highest concentration of repair and new-build berths, with a deep local supply chain for parts and class services.
