Custom & Semi-Custom Yacht Building
A custom build starts with a concept and general arrangement drawn by a naval architect, then a written specification listing hull structure, engines, generators, tankage, systems, deck equipment and interior materials. Once signed, the yard cuts tooling or plate, laminates or fabricates the hull, fits systems, then completes joinery and finish. Sea trials, snagging, registration and handover close the project.
Not every project is a superyacht. UAE yards also build fishing boats, RIBs, tenders, dive boats and wooden dhows to order. For these, a custom boat builder UAE-based will usually work from an existing hull mould and customise deck layout, console, seating, tanks and power — a faster and far cheaper route than new tooling.
Payment stages tied to verifiable milestones, a delivery date with a defined remedy for delay, the classification or survey standard, who owns tooling and drawings, warranty length and scope, and what happens to your payments if the project stalls. Ask for the yard's last comparable build and a reference you can call.

A custom yacht builder starts from your brief and produces new naval architecture and often new tooling. A semi-custom builder uses a proven hull and superstructure and adapts layout, cabin count, engines, systems and finish. Semi-custom is faster and more predictable on price; full custom gives complete control over dimensions and arrangement.
Yes. UAE yards build leisure yachts locally, and building here removes import shipping and simplifies inspection visits during construction because you can attend the yard. Compare the local quote against an imported equivalent on total landed cost, delivery date and warranty support.
Most builds use stage payments — typically at contract signature and then against verifiable milestones such as hull lamination or fabrication, deck join, engine installation, fit-out and delivery. Tie every payment to an inspectable milestone rather than to a calendar date.
Many yards assist with registration paperwork and arrange survey or classification where the vessel requires it. Confirm in the contract who is responsible for the survey, who pays for it, and which standard the vessel is being built to before construction starts.
